برنامه ریزی عصبی – زبانی از سه حرف اول عبارت انگلیسی (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) گرفته شده و در فارسی با عنوان اختصاری آن “ان ال پی” نیز نامیده می شود.
برنامه ریزی عصبی – زبانی در وهله اول با سیستم عصبی و ذهن سروکار دارد. به همین دلیل بخش اعظم دانش برنامه ریزی عصبی – زبانی شامل فهم و استفاده از اصول الگوهای سیستم عصبی می شود و بر همین اساس، تفکر، یادگیری، خلاقیت، تصمیم گیری و سایر فرایندهای شناختی نتیجه کنش و واکنش هایی است که در درون سیستم عصبی، یعنی ذهن، انجام می پذیرد. تجربه انسان آمیخته یا براینده اطلاعات درونی و بیرونی است که ما در ذهن خود آن ها را پالایش می کنیم. این تجارب دارای ساختاری به صورت تصویر، صدا، حس و نیز به صورت حس بویایی و چشایی در ذهن می باشد.
برنامه ریزی عصبی – زبانی شامل زبان و نحوه ارتباط از طریق زبان را نیز می شود. از دید این دانش، زبان به گونه ای محصول سیستم عصبی است، در عین حال که زبان به طور فعال کاربردهای سیستم عصبی را شکل می دهد. زبان نحوه ارتباط ما با دیگران را مشخص می کند. بنابراین، برقراری ارتباط موثر و تعامل با دیگران بستگی به چگونگی بکاربردن زبان، چگونگی.بیان مفاهیم، افکار، نظرات از طریق زبان در وضعیت های مختلف دارد.

تکنیک های برنامه ریزی عصبی – زبانی در حال حاضر به طور بسیار گسترده ای در مطالعه چگونگی عملکرد ذهن، چگونگی اثرگذاری و نفوذ بر دیگران، نحوه بکار بردن زبان، مهارت های برقراری ارتباط موثر، تغییر الگوهای رفتاری خود و دیگران، چگونگی فراگیری و یادگیری، مذاکرات و بسیاری از زمینه های دیگر قابل اجرا است.

اهمیت مدل سازی در برنامه ریزی عصبی – زبانی
